Organic farming is a production system of crops which avoids the use of synthetic and chemical inputslike fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators and livestock feed additives. Organic farming systems depend mainly on crop rotation, crop residues, animal manures, legumes, green manures, off-farm organic residues, mineral bearing rocks. natural pesticides and biological pest control to maintain soil productivity and supply important nutrients like N, P, K. Indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers for decades has resulted in the decline of organic matter content of soils to less than one per cent. The use of pesticides has led to pest resurgence and difficulty in controlling weeds. Indiscriminate use of artificial fertilizer and pesticide has caused severe water and environmental pollution. The residue of chemical is of seriousconcern for the safety of food and sustainable production. Organic farming ensures the production of palatable food free from chemical residues.

"Tropical Dairy Farming: Feeding Management for Small Holder Dairy Farmers in the Humid Tropics"
John Moran, "Tropical Dairy Farming: Feeding Management for Small Holder Dairy Farmers in the Humid Tropics"
CSIRO Publishing (December 2005) | English | 0643091238 | 312 pages | PDF | 5.00 MB
This manual is designed for use by dairy production advisors working in tropical areas, especially in South-East Asia. It aims to increase the productivity of small holder dairy farmers in the humid tropics by improving the feeding management of their livestock. It shows how to provide dairy cows with cost-effective feeds that match small holder farming systems and discusses the major obstacles to improving feeding management in the humid tropics. The author shows the benefits and drawbacks of various feed components and the calculation of balanced diets based mainly on forages combined with some supplementary feeding. Diseases and problems associated with unbalanced diets are also covered, as well as important information on growing and conserving quality forages as silage. Tropical Dairy Farming draws on examples from a variety of countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and the Philippines.

Good Growing: Why Organic Farming Works (Our Sustainable Future)

Publisher: Bison Books | ISBN: 0803266480 | edition 2005 | PDF | 251 pages | 2,01 mb
Over the past decade, organic products have become the fastest growing sector of agriculture, with an annual increase of at least 20 percent. This book explains why organic production and consumption have seen such phenomenal growth in recent years—and, even more important, why they should. A clear-eyed, close-up look at the compelling reasons for organic farming and the methods that make it work, Good Growing begins with a frank account of the problems with conventional industrial agriculture—the pesticide use, pollution, and corporate control that have undermined public health and devastated rural towns and family farms. In-depth interviews with working organic farmers from across the country bring to life the facts and figures that Leslie Duram sets out in her extensive overview of the realities of organic farming today. Farmers with very different operations in California, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, and upstate New York give us an intimate understanding of the ecological, social, economic, and personal factors that shape their farming experiences. We also learn firsthand about the attractions and pleasures as well as the problems and concerns that accompany organic farming. With its comprehensive view of the status of farming and its compelling portraits of organic farmers, Good Growing is, finally, a work of scientific advocacy describing a course of action, based on the best research available, to improve the health of agriculture in our day.

Improving the Safety of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables
Organic Gardening book collection part 1
Different publishers | 50 books | language english, serbian | PDF, djvu | 660 MB

Organic gardening usually refers to gardening practices that do not use chemical pesticides. But it is not so simple.
Gardening organically is really just common sense. Organic gardening doesn't mean you have to surrender your plants to pests and diseases. Organics means you need to know how nature works and stop trying to fight it. The key to organic gardening is keeping a healthy balance in your garden. Prevent problems, rather than treating for them after the fact. Healthy plants are better able to withstand pests than stressed plants. And your plants will be healthy if they are given what they need to grow well and if you are growing diversity of plants.

Tropical Flowering Plants: A Guide to Identification and Cultivation
Tropical Flowering Plants: A Guide to Identification and Cultivation
Timber Press | ISBN: 0881925853 | 2003-09-01 | PDF | 424 pages | 45.4 Mb | RS

This book bridges a long-standing gap between obscure references in tropical botany and the gardener's need for an accurate, practical guide with clear photographs. Incorporating the latest advances in plant taxonomy from the definitive text of Dr. Walter Judd, the book is a rare work of scrupulous research --- and magnificent photography --- that will be as useful to the gardener as it is to the botanist. Kirsten Llamas exhaustively documents more than 1400 flowering trees, shrubs, vines, and herbaceous plants commonly grown in tropical and subtropical gardens. She provides thorough information on cultivation for each plant, including growth characteristics, light exposure, cold hardiness, invasive tendencies, and unique horticultural features. More than 1500 color photos of magnificent flowering specimens make this book as much a pleasure to browse as it is a resource for research. Sure to appeal to gardeners, landscapers, nurseries, collectors, botany students, florists, and botanical gardens, Tropical Flowering Plants promises to be a staple reference for decades to come
